What We’ve Learned: Best Practices for Seeq Deployment Success

Successfully Deploying Seeq: 3 Tips to Streamline Implementation

March 31, 2022

You’ve finally done it, got the green light to roll out Seeq across your organization. You’ve escaped pilot purgatory and cleared organizational obstacles, and you feel the energy and excitement to get the program rolling.

With a well-defined IT architecture for your solution and a wide array of beneficial use cases, one nagging question may remain: How will I convince my colleagues to take the time to learn these new tools and implement them in their daily work? You may anxiously foresee yourself playing the role of behavioral economist, rather than process engineer or project manager, as you strive to prove a positive cost-benefit relationship.

To address these and other issues, the Customer Success Team at Seeq can guide you through this phase of the data analytics implementation journey by supporting you with success planning workshops, training, use case development, and more. And although we don’t have the influence to directly drive sustainable change in your organization, we have seen many Seeq Champions like you do this in companies around the world, and we can provide tips based on their success.

Here are three key pieces of advice for leading adoption of Seeq throughout your process manufacturing organization.

1. Decrease the activation energy required to get started

Every engineering student knows the lower the activation energy, the quicker a chemical reaction will occur. The same principle applies to an engineer adopting self-service analytics tools. By making it easy for engineers to get started with these tools and presenting them with resources that empower learning at their own pace, the likelihood of quick adoption is greatly increased.

Seeq’s browser-based design, integration with corporate single sign-on, and in-product learning tools catalyze end-users’ onboarding experience, but nothing inhibits engineers’ abilities to learn new tools as much as daily firefighting at their plant. Therefore, it is essential for supervisors to buy in to the value of these analytics tools, so they give their staff sufficient time to explore and learn. The key is showing management how time spent now learning how to use Seeq will improve productivity very quickly, like switching from a manual to a power saw.

Wide-reaching introduction webinars, targeted to all levels of an organization and led by other end users, are an effective method to emphasize the importance of dedicating time to learning new analytics tools.

2. Build an analytics Community of Practice

While online information on the value of data analytics in process manufacturing is vast, engineers are more likely to adopt and implement advanced analytics tools if they can picture the value added specifically in their workplace. Hosting Communities of Practice—where end-users share use cases, ask technical questions, and learn different applications of analytics—is an effective method to inspire wide audiences to apply analytics to their work.

Communities of Practice can take a variety of forms, but in all cases it’s important for members to communicate with each other on a daily basis. Seeq users commonly leverage Microsoft Teams, Slack, and Google Groups to keep up to date.

After establishing a Community of Practice, users can easily invite Seeq Analytics Engineers to answer tough technical questions, if and when they arise. Thanks to the power of group learning, most end users become just as capable of answering these questions as Seeq experts over time.

Seeq Pro-Tip: Lunch and learns are a fun and engaging way for a Community of Practice to meet and share ideas. Encourage people to present their work with some Seeq swag, like these socks!

3. Evangelize successes to the highest levels of the organization

Although initial interest in analytics solutions typically comes from the bottom-up, successful implementations require support from the top-down. For this reason, reviewing rollout progress with managers and executives in the organization is critical.

During these review sessions, it is helpful to emphasize how the analytics tools are meeting success criteria outlined at program kickoff. This is an ideal opportunity to also discuss challenges faced with the rollout—perhaps engineers need more hours allotted to learning new tools, for example. Seeq’s executive team can join these conversations to ensure our product roadmap aligns with your organization’s digitalization ambitions.

Additionally, executive reviews are a fantastic setting to recognize employees for their work by showcasing individual contributors’ creativity and problem-solving abilities using Seeq’s cutting edge technologies.

Seeq Pro-Tip: Host an Executive Business Review at least once annually.
