Going All In on Advanced Analytics and Operational Innovation for the Chemicals Industry

July 17, 2025

The Seeq team returned from Conneqt 2025, feeling inspired by the energy, insight, and collaboration that defined this year’s event in Las Vegas. The theme, All In, perfectly captured the spirit of the conference, where chemical process manufacturers from across sectors—specialty, agricultural, and beyond—came together to share how they’re leveraging advanced analytics to solve their most pressing challenges.

The sessions revealed a broad spectrum of use cases—from process optimization and productivity improvements to asset health monitoring and machine learning—all driven by cross-functional collaboration and a shared commitment to continuous innovation.

Dive into some of the standout stories from the Chemicals Track below.

Eastman Chemical: Bridging Engineering and Data Science for Process Insight

Digital Manufacturing Engineers at Eastman Chemical, Jack Puryear and Peyton Piesco, shared how Seeq helped solve a complex visibility challenge within their multi-unit chemical process. Operators were making countless decisions each shift to keep the process in control, often without real-time feedback. Sampling delays meant missed opportunities to intervene early, and traditional first-principles models, while informative, lacked clarity and accessibility for broader stakeholders.

By using Seeq, Eastman integrated engineering and data science efforts to unlock deeper visibility into quality metrics and process performance. “Innovation is happening more frequently at the intersection of disciplines,” Puryear noted, highlighting how Seeq facilitated that collaboration.

Piesco emphasized how Seeq helped simplify complexity, “Instead of building graphs, we showed up with a clear visualization—green is good. It was extremely convincing.”

The results? Improved process understanding, clearer stakeholder communication, and enhanced adaptability to maintain optimal production.

Nutrien: Enterprise-Wide Monitoring and Optimization

Another highlight came from Nutrien where Senior AI/Data Scientist Dr. Nethika Suraweera and Ammonia Process SME Adeyinka Opadeyi shared how the Nutrien Real-Time Operations Center (NROC) uses Seeq to monitor 13 nitrogen plants across North America and the Caribbean.

By moving beyond site-level monitoring and analyzing data at the enterprise scale, the NROC team identified patterns and common issues that enabled the development of broader solutions. One initiative focused on creating alerts tied to deviations in key safety, reliability, and optimization variables. With over 4,000 tags to manage, the team used Seeq to build scalable condition trees and automate notifications.

Opadeyi explained, “The benefit was tighter optimization—catching inefficiencies in near real-time instead of discovering them after the fact.”

Verdagy: Accelerating Innovation Through Data Accessibility

At Verdagy, a company focused on clean hydrogen production via water electrolysis, Sr. Scientist Emily Cole discussed the importance of making lab-generated data actionable at scale. Early-stage experiments produced data faster than it could be processed, creating a bottleneck between experimentation and decision-making.

By integrating Seeq with their operator database, Verdagy could flag, filter, and standardize raw data, generate real-time KPIs, and visualize results automatically.

Cole shared,We reduced data analysis time by 90%. This enabled faster KPI communication, broader data access across teams, and consistent calculation application—all critical for scaling innovation.”

Industry leaders gathered at Conneqt 2025 to explore the latest innovations in people-centric industrial analytics, AI, and enterprise monitoring.

Common Threads: Cross-Functional Collaboration and Scalable Insights

Throughout the Chemicals Track, a clear pattern emerged. Whether optimizing plant operations, scaling new technologies, or improving equipment reliability, Seeq enables organizations to bridge gaps between disciplines, enhance data visibility, and accelerate problem-solving.

By going All In with advanced analytics, these companies didn’t just improve their operations—they empowered their teams, drove innovation, and achieved measurable business outcomes.

We’re grateful to all the presenters who shared their stories at Conneqt 2025 and look forward to continuing the journey of unlocking data insights together.
