Analysis of Advanced Process Control for Grinding

The most energy-intensive step in a mineral concentration plant is grinding, in some cases 40% – 50% of the total site consumption. Optimizing the grinding operations has the most impact in power consumption and mill throughput. Seeq was used to perform analysis of the mill power utilization in Boliden Garpenberg to identify the potential and then the performance of a new advanced process control system. The results of the assessment and early evaluation will be presented here.

Moving from data analysis and reporting to data ownership is a challenge. Enabling cultural change across Dominion requires enterprise technology with mechanisms for self-service, data transparency, and improved collaboration. Within the first 100 days of using Seeq, we have evaluated alarms to prioritize action for relay servicing and integrated with Power BI for Forecasting Load Growth. We learned that with proper data sources, the right support, and an incremental approach to success, a data-forward and self-service culture can evolve.

OPG’s entire fleet for power generation and the Monitoring and Diagnostic Centre (M&D) work with a technology portfolio to monitor and meet important operations KPIs. Seeq is utilized to execute advanced requests in the nuclear and hydroelectric space. Resources, such as office hours, learning, support tickets, meetings and other touchpoints are leveraged to improve the communication strategy and make people aware of the solutions’ capabilities. As OPG continues to grow, we will discuss how Seeq fits into the future.

NITROcrete - "Hands-Off" Approach for Using Seeq to Manage its Business

As NITROcrete’s operations grew, our home-grown IoT system became difficult to use. Seeq became pervasively present with a hands-off approach and focused on the needs of the primary end users. It is used to view site data to manage operations, communicate with the customer, troubleshoot issues, planning and scheduling, and even accounting. It is now the enabling platform to run NITROcrete’s business.
