Our Advanced Asset Monitoring (AAM) program uses advanced data ingestion, anomaly detection, and signal processing to proactively identify equipment health issues. This allows our engineers to pinpoint root causes and predict failures, leading to improved maintenance planning and preventing costly downtime. AAM has successfully identified specific maintenance needs, like spark plug replacements, demonstrating its effectiveness in shifting from reactive to proactive maintenance.

Brazed Aluminum Heat Exchanger Dashboards

Brazed aluminum heat exchangers (BAHX) allow high rates of heat transfer, but the equipment is susceptible to mechanical failures and internal/external leaks. As recognized by BAHX manufacturers, thermal cycling and high temperature differentials between adjacent streams can cause fatigue on the equipment and contribute to equipment failures. Seeq functionality was utilized to calculate the historical and current thermal cycling and temperature differential magnitudes on each BAHX across the fleet.

Over the past five years, gas compressor trips at Saudi Aramco have often been caused by gradual changes in temperature or vibration, even below alarm thresholds; suggesting potential equipment issues. Saudi has used Seeq to monitor and prevent these trips and built a tool within to analyze temperature and vibration data from various compressor parts and sets dynamic thresholds based on historical trends. By proactively identifying abnormal behavior, operations and maintenance teams can address problems before they lead to shutdowns.

Proactive Alerts Preventing Alkylation Plant Shutdowns

At Parkland, we have improved supply chain reliability for our sulfuric acid deliveries using Seeq, which averted a costly $1MM/year shutdown in our Alkylation unit. To empower our vendors to play a more proactive role in managing delivery schedules, an automated email report on tank level forecasts was developed in Seeq Data Lab (SDL) to improve cross-company communications and simplify data sharing with multiple vendors. Tank level forecasts are automatically generated every shift in real-time, and stakeholders are alerted with customized content and figures using our fit for purpose alerts developed in SDL

Reducing Emissions through Gas Turbine Optimization

AkerBP is optimizing gas turbines to reduce CO2 emissions by focusing on improving different component such as the air filter. Using Seeq, the team assessed air filter degradation and determined the best time for replacement by distinguishing degradation-related pressure changes from those due to turbine load. Through collaboration between Subject Matter Experts and Data Scientists, the AkerBP team was able to employ Seeq Prediction to quantify energy wastage from degraded filters and shift from calendar-based to condition-based maintenance strategies, further reducing emissions.

Seeqing Abnormal Pipeline Shutdowns

At Marathon Pipe Line (MPL), we used Seeq to develop a custom line shutdown condition loaded with calculations to describe the nature of the event (with pressure and temperature variables) that applies to every segment of interest in our operating areas. It replaced an older tool that was cumbersome to use and limited in scope, as well as the practice of combing through old shift reports and reading descriptions of events. On-call specialists have been trained to use and interpret this tool, as well as apply it to new segments when necessary.

Using Seeq and PI to measure and reduce Compressor Blowdowns

Accurate measurement and reporting of methane emissions from natural gas compressor operations is a critical function. Learn how Equitrans Midstream shifted automated compressor blowdown calculations using Seeq. These calculations utilize Seeq’s formula functions and asset capabilities (including PI-AF) to scale calculations across the fleet of ~200 compressors. The results are then written back to PI for standard reporting and to utilize event frame notifications. This methodology has enabled streamlined reporting and rapid validation of process improvements.
